Retrac Composites at the double
Swindon based component and tooling manufacturer Retrac Composites has added an additional 1,300 sq ft to its 22,000 sq ft composites manufacturing facility.
The onset of 2016 has seen demand continue to grow within Formula One and aerospace sectors for Retrac’s advanced composite engineering capabilities.
Following a period of investment that has seen a 1,000 sq ft ISO 14644-1 Class 7 clean room installed and a CMS Cronus 5 axis milling machine added to their plant list over the course of the past 24 months Retrac Composites are not resting on their laurels.
The introduction of a new 5.8m x 11m mezzanine floor extension to an existing mezzanine has enabled a new 14.5m x 8.2m room to be constructed that will serve to streamline the companies kit cutting process and provide scope to double its existing composites assembly area according to Project Director Ian Drew.
“Kit cutting and assembly are an integral part of Retrac’s production process. Effectively doubling our existing space in these areas will allow us to increase our composites manufacturing capacity whilst retaining our focus on improving productivity and workflow which in turn will have a positive impact on component lead time and cost” Drew said.
The new mezzanine, which will also house 2 large freezer rooms, forms part of an ongoing strategy to expand Retrac’s composites manufacturing capabilities to cope with the demands of the motorsport industry and the complexities and scale of an expanding aerospace customer base.
Moving forwards Retrac Composites harbor plans to install an additional autoclave, to maintain the lasting relationships that has seen it become of the UK’s most trusted manufacturers of composite components.
